ABOUT THE PAINTING
‘BALACLAVA’ is a part of a series of illustrations for book ‘Alaska’ (“Polyandrya”publish house) created in 2021.
The artwork portrays a balaclava with a mesmerizing starry sky pattern. Within the eye and mouth openings of the balaclava, there are floating images of eyes and a mouth, creating an illusion of disembodied features suspended in space. The contrast between the earthly garment and the cosmic imagery evokes a sense of surrealism and mystery.
“BALACLAVA” delves into the concept of identity and the masks we wear to conceal our true selves. The balaclava, typically associated with anonymity and disguise, is juxtaposed with the vastness of the cosmos, symbolizing the depth and complexity of human existence. The floating eyes and mouth suggest the ethereal nature of our inner selves, hinting at the idea that our identities are not confined to physical appearances but are influenced by the infinite expanse of the universe. This artwork invites to contemplate the interplay between the tangible and the intangible aspects of identity, encouraging reflection on the interconnectedness of all things within the cosmic tapestry of existence.
